GoPro's new app lets you control your camera with an Apple Watch

GoPro's new app lets you control your camera with an Apple Watch - GoPro's iOS app is great, but the new Apple Watch integration makes it a killer.

GoPro released an update to its iOS app Thursday, which includes an app for the Apple Watch for the first time. The Watch app is essentially a wrist-mounted remote control for a GoPro's most important functions.

From their wrists, GoPro users can now start and stop recording, preview their shots and add "HiLight" bookmarks for easier editing. The Watch app is compatible with the GoPro HERO3 or any of the company's Wi-Fi equipped cameras, though previewing shots on the Apple Watch isn't compatible with the HERO3 or the HERO2 with Wi-Fi Bacpac.

GoPro's iOS app is essential since it lets videographers more accurately set-up and record footage, as GoPros tend to be mounted in inaccessible locations and many don't have any sort of viewfinder. A Watch app takes the convenience of the iOS a step further in allowing videographers carry out the most important GoPro functions from their wrists.

While the iOS app is requisite for GoPro users, the need to use one's phone to record action can sometimes get in the way of the action itself. A Watch app is much less intrusive since anything a videographer would need to do after setting up their shot is accessible in a device their wearing.

Screenshots on GoPro's App Store page indicate that users can add GoPro functions as complications on their watch face, adding to the convenience further still.

This isn't the prophetical "killer-app" that will make the Apple Watch absolutely essential for everyone, but for GoPro users, it could very well be. It's certainly one of the most interesting uses of the Apple Watch to come down the pipeline. Source: Mashable
